The purpose is important to consider when writing because it can help make decisions on what genre to write and what media to use. If your purpose is to inform the general public of new technology it would make sense to use an informative review rather than a blog.

The purpose of both the scientific narrative and informative review was to inform the audience about the chosen topic, but the purpose of the multi-modal project was to convince the audience of a certain stance on a certain issue.
